-The Mission of Bea Fisher

Join Our Team

Our mission began more than 50 years ago...

The core focus of the Bea Fisher Group of Companies is to help individuals with developmental disabilities live as independent and meaningful lives as possible. Our primary work is accomplished through Ability Development Services. We deliver programs and services which assist in creating opportunities for community inclusion and personal development. These can range from employment preparation and placement services to community access programs, 24-hour residential living support and independent living supports.
Bea Fisher Enterprises (BFE), is an independent, Board directed, non profit organization. BFE’s mission is to develop long term, revenue generating ventures while creating employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities and without. Net profits fund the work of Ability Development Services. Presently, Bea Fisher Enterprises operates Lloydminster’s only bottle depot.
The Bea Fisher Foundation’s role is to advocate for community inclusion opportunities and raise funds for capital needs within the Bea Fisher Centre. Since the Foundation’s inception in 1991, community minded individuals, businesses and organizations have joined with Bea Fisher to raise over $1 million through Foundation led events and programs. In more recent years, funds raised through the Foundation have helped fund improvement and maintenance project at several of our twelve 24-hour care homes and purchased a specialized van for transportation needs.
Volunteer Boards of Directors provide guidance for each of these companies.
Where we came from… In the late 1960’s, a group of concerned citizens and parents began looking for ways to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities living in and near Lloydminster. Mrs. Bea Fisher was one of those citizens. In 1972, their efforts culminated in the creation of what we now call The Bea Fisher Centre Inc.
From an early focus on skill development and residential living services, we have expanded our breadth of services to include:
  • life and work skill coaching
  • medical administration
  • community access programs
  • transportation
  • volunteer opportunities
  • residential living support including semi-independent apartment living and operating 24-hour care homes.
  • employment placement support services
All services are designed around the specific needs of each individual and vary depending on the needs and goals of the person requesting support.

Our Employment Placement (EP) program supports both the individuals in our services and the employers who hire them, providing on the job coaching to both to ensure the success of these partnerships. This program which boasts over 50 partner businesses is reliant on the support of our community businesses to competitively employ persons with developmental disabilities. It is a key way we deliver inclusive, individualized services which assists those with developmental disabilities integrate into our community and live as independent and meaningful lives as possible.

Our community access programs connect individuals to supported volunteer opportunities and community inclusion activities depending on each individuals’ interests and skills.
“There is only one way to look at things until someone shows us how to look at them with different eyes.” – Pablo Picasso
Today, Bea Fisher is a thriving collection of 3 organizations unified by a single goal, to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Over 100 individuals chose Bea Fisher for support services and it is our privilege to live and work alongside every single one of them.
